His introduction to engineering design was swift and rapid – Darren spent some years with Yorkshire Water’s Section 104 Adoptions team located in Ryedale District Council and subsequently with York City Council, where a full road and sewer design appraisal of all consultants/developer design submissions would be made. In-keeping with numerous changes over the years to design criteria from various regulatory bodies, ensured Darren enrolled on the relevant courses and software upgrades to keep up with the “fastrack” environment that was ensuing. Darren eventually made the move to a well known design consultancy in Yorkshire, where his progression through the ranks made him more aware of the financial, marketing and team management constraints associated with engineering consultancies. Having spent over a decade serving housing developers in the Yorkshire and surrounding regions designing for Section 38,104 and 278 developments, Darren moved to the North West as Head of Engineering working for one the top five national housebuilders, designing schemes in-house and the overseeing of other external consultants in the field of geo-environmental and remediation issues that were prevalent to brownfield development. In the seven years spent designing in the North West, Darren has forged good relationships and rapport with numerous personnel within Local Highway’s, Water Utility Companies and the Environment Agency, thus ensuring an efficient and practical approach to scheme design. “It is the sole intention of DMS Civils Design Ltd to ensure that future clients will be repeat clients, which enables both the client and DMS to move forward with confidence”.
